A walking tour

Created for a July 2014 Genspace NYC Field Trip, the maps below show a walking route that contains 35+ spontaneous plant species growing in sidewalk cracks, street tree pits, vacant lots and other forgotten places. These plants grow and reproduce successfully without human intervention or maintenance, creating a complex ecosystem shaped by the challenging conditions of the urban landscape. Images of some of the plants encountered on the walking tour (and the habitats in which they live) are posted here.
