Dissolution

Part of the BETA Spaces 2010 exhibition The Here and Now, this site-specific installation uses water from three local sources: English Kills/Newtown Creek, New York City tap water, and Poland Springs water bottles. Water samples from each source are frozen and allowed to melt slowly over the course of a day, dripping down a fragile structure built of branches, spackle and gouache. Referencing processes of erosion and the dispersal of nutrients and contaminants through the water cycle, water runs across the joints of the sculpture gradually disintegrating them and leaving traces of paint and plaster in its wake.
